International Society of Educators in Physiotherapy

Requests for information and help

 Jawad Niaz in Pakistan

I am a student in the third year in the School of Physiotherapy J.P.M.C Karachi, Pakistan. I have gone through your website many times and I think this is the platform where I can express my feelings. In Pakistan there are only two recognized institutes for physical therapy education, one in Lahore that is Punjab University and one in Karachi i.e., Karachi University. With a population of over 15000000 is this justified ? No attention has been given at Government level in recognizing the role of and demand for physiotherapy in the society and no proper status has been given to the physiotherapist . Doctors are considered the king of medicine and everything regarding healthcare. Physiotherapists here are considered substandard medical professionals. There is also  need for increasing public awareness about physiotherapy, but without  Government support this is not possible. This is the time that western physiotherapy organisations should fund the physiotherapy organisations of the third world, such as Pakistan .They should visit and see for themselves what is happening in the field of physical therapy and its significance in society in the third world. If I want to improve the environment for physiotherapy here in Pakistan , who should I ask ?, where should I go ?  I am a person who has dedicated his life to the improvement of physiotherapy education and awareness of the role of physiotherapy, in my home environment and for the social status of physiotherapist here in Pakistan.
