Minutes of the ISEP General  Meeting at WCPT 2003 ( Barcelona )

The General Meeting of ISEP held at the WCPT Congress in Barcelona , was well attended by current members, new members and those interested in becoming members with 50 representatives from all WCPT regions present. The meeting was chaired by the President, who welcomed all participants and outlined the aims of ISEP for new members and prospective members. The President-elect and Secretary-Treasurer arrived a short while later, due to their platform presentations overlapping with the time of the General Meeting.

Grateful thanks are due to Marion Tidswell of the UK and Neva Greenwald of the USA for assistance in taking notes at the meeting and collecting new and renewal dues/ membership fees prior to the arrival of the Secretary-Treasurer.  This report would not be possible without these wonderful colleagues.

Introductions of participants, approval of the minutes of the ISEP General Meeting held in Yokohama in 1999, and out going officer reports were given.  Reports were submitted to the web-master for posting on the web page. The group bid farewell to President Lesley Dawson of the UK whose term of office was completed, Nancy Farina of the USA the President-elect who found it necessary to resign for personal reasons, and Marilyn E. Miller of the USA , Secretary-Treasurer since the founding of the organization 8 years ago. The ISEP web address remains: www.isep.org.au

Following the ISEP business meeting membership numbers increased.  Membership increased again following the excellent ISEP conference in Valencia , Spain .  At the close of both meetings 51 new members were added to the organization.

At the direction of President Gillian Webb, Lesley Dawson received funds of 1020 Euros collected as dues/membership fees to pay urgent bills related to the conference in Valencia . Receipts for this amount will be forwarded to the new Secretary-Treasurer.

The outgoing Secretary-Treasurer will forward existing deposits of  $398 U.S. to the new account when established.

ISEP is negotiating with the American Physical Therapy Association of the USA in order to provide a possible address for credit card processing on dues/membership fees.  Watch for the web page announcement.

All new and renewal membership should be directed to Judy Canfield. Members need to renew NOW for the next 4 years.  Dates for dues/membership fees renewal will be posted on the website and notice sent to currently listed e-mail addresses as the ISEP budget is too small to do individual mailing for renewal notices.  Please help spread the word for new and renewal memberships to be forwarded to Judy Canfield, Secretary-Treasurer.

Please contact your Regional Representatives with your news and questions for ISEP. Contact information will be posted on the web-site for future information.

There are plans to have a password restricted membership directory soon to facilitate member communication.

ISEP requests regional representatives to notify colleagues from the educational community within physiotherapy about the opportunity for membership of ISEP. Regional Representatives will also report on educational conferences attended and post information about future conferences to encourage membersí participation. Regional Representatives have a role in transmitting issues discussed in their respective educational communities to the officers and posting inquiries to the membership.  Representatives are encouraged to meet in their regions between ISEP meetings.  Hopefully there will be an open discussion board on the ISEP website very soon.

The participant from Afghanistan called for education consultants to assist the three physiotherapy schools in that country to develop and stabilize their curriculum. For further information, contact Padmani Chanmugam at sgaa@brain.net.pk

ISEP is seeking subgroup status at the invitation of WCPT.  Information about this is already posted on the web page. Members at the General Meeting encouraged the new Executive Committee to finalize details of this status. These details will be determined by the officers, in discussion with the membership via e-mail and the web page.  The goal will be to find a method to retain membership for non-WCPT members and revise ISEP bylaws to enable subgroup status.  The current individual membership fees of $25 US/ 20Euros will be retained.  Dues/membership fees are valid for membership until 2007.

ISEP reconvened at Valencia , Spain as a WCPT Post-Congress Conference for 2 days of excellent keynote speakers, concurrent small presentations, posters and social events. Our hosts were the University of Valencia , under the guidance of Nicolas Estevez Fuertes.  Please see the web page and newsletter for details posted by the meeting organizers.

The next ISEP meeting will be at WCPT Vancouver. Lesley Bainbridge of Canada will head the Organizing Committee for the next ISEP conference.  Please forward your ideas to the ISEP Officers and to Lesley Bainbridge.  Watch the ISEP web page for ongoing notices and information.   www.isep.org.au
